By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Autism Acceptance Month

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is home to thousands of individuals and families impacted by autism spectrum disorder (ASD); and

WHEREAS, Virginians impacted by autism spectrum disorder contribute to the social, cultural, and economic vitality of the Commonwealth, and many employers across the Commonwealth are expanding inclusive hiring practices that recognize the strengths of neurodiverse workers; and

WHEREAS, early screening and intervention significantly improve long-term outcomes for children diagnosed with ASD, and Virginia’s early intervention system, Infant & Toddler Connection, serves thousands of children annually, including many with developmental concerns related to ASD; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s universities provide training, research, and technical assistance to educators, families, and service providers across the Commonwealth to improve the level of services provided to individuals living with ASD; and

WHEREAS, community acceptance, accessible services, and inclusive education help ensure that individuals living with autism can thrive, participate fully in community life, and reach their highest potential; and

WHEREAS, around the world, April is recognized as Autism Acceptance Month—a time to promote understanding, celebrate neurodiversity, and reaffirm Virginia’s commitment to supporting individuals with autism and their families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, do hereby recognize April 2026, as AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
