By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Bereaved Parents Awareness Month

WHEREAS, the loss of a child, regardless of age, is among the most profound tragedies a parent can experience, bringing immeasurable grief and presenting immense emotional, physical, and psychological challenges; and 

WHEREAS, July is nationally recognized as Bereaved Parents Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to honor the memories of children whose lives have been lost, recognize the enduring bond of love between parents and their children, and acknowledge the parents and families navigating the lifelong journey of grief; and 

WHEREAS, increasing public understanding and awareness of parental bereavement is essential to fostering compassion, expanding access to meaningful support, and reducing the isolation often experienced by parents and families grieving the loss of a child; and 

WHEREAS, recognizing the strength and unwavering resilience of bereaved parents inspires communities to continue providing the compassion, care, and support needed to help families navigate the enduring journey of grief; and 

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding access to resources, strengthening systems of care, and fostering safe, compassionate spaces for parents and families grieving the loss of a child;  

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize July 2026, as BEREAVED PARENTS AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
