By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Civil Service Month

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has a long and distinguished tradition of public service, rooted in the belief that government works best when dedicated citizens commit their talents, knowledge, and energy to serving their fellow Virginians; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s civil servants work every day to deliver essential services, implement the Commonwealth’s laws, protect public health and safety, strengthen our communities, preserve our natural resources, and ensure that Virginians can access the programs and services they need; and

WHEREAS, public servants serve in communities across the Commonwealth in a wide range of professions, including education, health care, public safety, transportation, environmental protection, social services, administration, technology, and many other vital fields; and

WHEREAS, the work of Virginia’s civil servants often takes place behind the scenes, yet their contributions touch the lives of millions of Virginians each day and are essential to the effective functioning of state and local government; and

WHEREAS, an effective civil service enhances public trust in government, supports economic opportunity, and helps build a Commonwealth where every Virginian has the opportunity to thrive; and

WHEREAS, Civil Service Month provides an opportunity to recognize and thank Virginia’s dedicated civil servants while inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in public service and carry forward the Commonwealth’s proud tradition of serving others;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize September 2026, as CIVIL SERVICE MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
