WHEREAS, Indigenous people have made significant contributions to environmental stewardship, cultural diversity, education, community development, and public service across the Commonwealth and nation; and

WHEREAS, Indigenous People Day provides an opportunity to honor the perseverance and courage of Indigenous peoples and celebrate their enduring impact on their communities and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia remains committed to honoring Indigenous people, recognizing their enduring history and heritage, and supporting the preservation of their cultures and traditions;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize October 12, 2026, as INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
