Proclamations

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
National Military Appreciation Month
WHEREAS, in 2004, Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month, calling upon all citizens to honor and recognize current and former members of the United States Armed Forces and their families, including those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation; and
WHEREAS, for generations, Virginians have faithfully and honorably served our nation and Commonwealth in times of both conflict and peace, and our servicemembers, along with their families and loved ones, have made immeasurable and lasting sacrifices in service to our country and in defense of the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is home to approximately 123,000 active-duty service members and more than 670,000 veterans, reflecting a strong and deeply rooted military community and Virginia’s long-standing tradition of supporting the Armed Forces and honoring those who serve in defense of the nation; and
WHEREAS, these servicemembers and veterans are leaders within our communities, exemplifying and imparting courage, honor, valor, and dignity to their fellow Virginians; and
WHEREAS, during Military Appreciation Month, we are reminded of the vital and enduring role the United States Armed Forces have played in shaping the history, character, and development of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that servicemembers, veterans, and their families receive strong, sustained support and recognition for their courageous service and sacrifice;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, do hereby recognize May 2026, as NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
