WHEREAS, National Nonprofit Day, observed on August 17, recognizes the critical contributions of nonprofit organizations and honors the individuals whose service and generosity advance the common good; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is strengthened by a robust nonprofit sector that serves communities in every region of the Commonwealth through education, healthcare, human services, housing, workforce development, the arts, environmental stewardship, historic preservation, public safety, and many other charitable efforts; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's nonprofit organizations provide essential services, advocate for those in need, foster civic engagement, and improve the quality of life for individuals and families while partnering with local, state, and federal governments, businesses, and philanthropic organizations to address community challenges; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth's nonprofit sector is an important economic driver, employing more than 300,000 Virginians, mobilizing over 2 million volunteers, and utilizing charitable contributions to strengthen communities and drive economic vitality across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes that a strong nonprofit sector is essential to fostering opportunity, expanding access to vital services, encouraging civic participation, and ensuring that all Virginians have the opportunity to thrive;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize August 17, 2026, as NATIONAL NONPROFIT DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
