Strengthen the Spirit of Virginia
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
WHEREAS, emergencies that require police, fire, or emergency medical services can occur at any time and the health and safety of all Virginians is important to our great Commonwealth; and,
WHEREAS, when an emergency occurs the availability of 9-1-1 assistance is integral to the safety of each Virginian, and prompt response is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property; and,
WHEREAS, the safety of law enforcement officers and firefighters is dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained from citizens who contact the Commonwealth’s 9-1-1 Centers; and,
WHEREAS, the professional public safety telecommunicators are the first and most critical link between the citizen or victim and the public safety provider and emergency services; and,
WHEREAS, it is important for the public to be aware of the responsibility to properly use 9-1-1 services by calling only in an emergency; thus, increasing the efficiency of the system and improving the chances that lives will be saved; and,
WHEREAS, each public safety telecommunicator has exhibited compassion, understanding and professionalism during the performance of their duties in the past year;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize April 10–16, 2022 as NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
