By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Resilience Week

WHEREAS, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are defined as potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood, such as experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect, which have a tremendous impact across the lifespan of an individual; and

WHEREAS, building resilience to buffer against potential ACEs is a community responsibility that affects the current and future quality of life in the community; and

WHEREAS, resilience is a key component of mental wellbeing; and

WHEREAS, families desire safe and stable communities that provide positive influences and strong role models that foster healthy development; and

WHEREAS, engaged and highly trained community service members assist our Commonwealth’s success, prosperity, and quality of life, and their experiences and relationships can make a difference in forming a strong foundation for healthy development and growth in the future; and

WHEREAS, investing in programs, strategies, and policies that support children and adults can help to ensure that communities develop resilience; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia encourages all individuals, families, groups, and organizations to work together to promote and foster resilience to assist in the development of positive childhood experiences and strengthening the bond within our communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 1-7, 2023, as RESILIENCE WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
