By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Blood Donation Day

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens and visitors; and,

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross in Virginia serves a population of 5.8 million across 118 cities and counties; and,

WHEREAS, sufficient donations of blood are essential to public health both locally and nationally, and our hospitals and medical centers need a readily available supply to save lives; and,

WHEREAS, one blood donation can help save more than one life, and although most of the United States population is eligible to donate blood, only about 3% are donors; and,

WHEREAS, eligible donors can make a whole blood donation every fifty-six days, allowing them to save multiple lives in one year; and,

WHEREAS, blood donation is a quick and relatively painless heroic act that saves lives and supports communities; and,

WHEREAS, Virginia Blood Donation Day effectively serves to remind us that we need to constantly replenish our blood supply through donation and community awareness;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize September 4, 2022 as BLOOD DONATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
