By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Blueberry Month

WHEREAS, Virginia's blueberry harvest season generally extends from June through August, providing residents and visitors with opportunities to enjoy fresh, locally grown fruit; and

WHEREAS, blueberry production contributes to the Commonwealth's agricultural economy, with commercial growers and home gardeners cultivating a variety of blueberry species and cultivators throughout Virginia; and

WHEREAS, pick-your-own blueberry farms are located across the Commonwealth, offering families and communities opportunities to support local agriculture while enjoying outdoor recreation and agritourism; and

WHEREAS, research suggests that consuming blueberries and other berries as part of a balanced diet may support heart health, cognitive function, and overall wellness; and

WHEREAS, agriculture is Virginia's largest private industry, generating billions in annual economic impact and supporting thousands of jobs and communities across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's blueberry growers play an important role in strengthening the Commonwealth's agricultural heritage, economy, and food supply;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize July 2026 as VIRGINIA BLUEBERRY MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
