By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia Blueberry Month

WHEREAS, blueberries are known as a “super food,” providing an excellent source of vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, and vitamin K, and blueberries are a good source of folate and fiber; and

WHEREAS, there were 483 blueberry operations across Virginia in 2022 with 432 acres grown, and three species of blueberries, including more than 20 cultivars, grown in the state; and

WHEREAS, the blueberry picking season in Virginia generally lasts from June through August; and

WHEREAS, “you pick” blueberry farms are located in all regions of the Commonwealth, offering family-friendly agritourism fun throughout the spring and summer; and

WHEREAS, blueberries are an excellent part of a healthy diet, with research indicating that eating berries may help prevent heart disease, support brain health, and manage blood sugar levels; and

WHEREAS, agriculture is the largest private industry in Virginia, creating $82 billion in economic impact annually, and blueberries are a popular addition to the diversity of this industry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 2025, as VIRGINIA BLUEBERRY MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
