By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia D-Day Anniversary

WHEREAS, June 6, 2026, marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, the historic Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II; and

WHEREAS, on June 6, 1944, thousands of American and Allied service members stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the largest military operations in history, beginning the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation; and

WHEREAS, those who served on D-Day helped secure victory for the Allied forces and defend the ideals of freedom, democracy, and justice; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is home to many veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and memorials that honor the legacy of those who served during World War II; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes the importance of preserving the history and enduring lessons of D-Day and honoring the veterans whose courage and sacrifice helped secure freedom during World War II;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize June 6, 2026, as the D-DAY ANNIVERSARY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
