WHEREAS, fathers play a vital role in the lives of their children, families, and communities by providing love, guidance, protection, support, and encouragement; and

WHEREAS, engaged and responsible fatherhood contributes to the healthy development, educational achievement, emotional well-being, and long-term success of children; and

WHEREAS, fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, adoptive fathers, mentors, and father figures make meaningful contributions that strengthen families and enrich communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, organizations, faith communities, schools, businesses, and civic leaders across Virginia work to support fathers in fulfilling their important responsibilities and building positive relationships with their children; and

WHEREAS, Fatherhood Week provides an opportunity to recognize the contributions of fathers and father figures, celebrate their dedication and sacrifice, and encourage greater engagement in the lives of children and families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize June 15-21, 2026, as VIRGINIA FATHERHOOD WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
