WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes the value of experiential learning in preparing college students for academic, professional, and personal success; and

WHEREAS, work-integrated learning experiences, including internships, apprenticeships, cooperative education, fellowships, and other forms of applied learning, contribute to the economic vitality and workforce development of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, internships help students connect the knowledge, skills, and competencies gained through postsecondary education with real-world workplace experiences, enhancing career readiness and professional growth; and

WHEREAS, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) supports the advancement of work-integrated learning opportunities as a critical component of student success and talent development; and

WHEREAS, National Intern Day is observed annually on the last Thursday of July and provides an opportunity to recognize the contributions of student interns, educational institutions, employers, and community partners who support experiential learning; and

WHEREAS, Virginia recognizes the important role internships play in developing the Commonwealth's future workforce and advancing its goals of being a leader in education, talent, and business growth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize July 30, 2026, as VIRGINIA INTERN DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
