WHEREAS, Virginia has long been committed to conserving energy resources and supporting low-income households through programs such as the Weatherization Assistance Program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia celebrates its 50th year of providing weatherization services for Virginians; and

 

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development has administered the Weatherization Assistance Program since its inception in 1976, providing state and federal resources through community action agencies, area agencies on aging, nonprofit organizations, housing authorities, and local governments to support eligible households in communities across the Commonwealth; and

 

WHEREAS, the Weatherization Assistance Program’s 14 local service providers recognize weatherization as a vital component of efforts to reduce the energy burden on low-income Virginians, promote energy efficiency, and support safe, affordable housing across the Commonwealth; and

 

WHEREAS, the Weatherization Assistance Program supports efforts to reduce energy costs and improve housing efficiency while strengthening communities through reduced air pollution, local economic investment, job creation, and neighborhood stabilization; and

 

WHEREAS, it is important to recognize the vital role of these programs in ensuring that all residents can live in energy-efficient, healthy, safe, and comfortable homes across the Commonwealth; and

 

WHEREAS, Virginia Weatherization Day provides an opportunity to recognize the benefits of weatherization and honor the dedicated professionals who administer the Weatherization Assistance Program across the Commonwealth;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize October 30, 2026, as VIRGINIA WEATHERIZATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens
