By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
X-Linked Hypophosphatemia Awareness Day and Month
WHEREAS, X-Linked Hypophosphatemia (XLH) is a rare, lifelong genetic disorder that affects multiple body systems, including the bones, joints, teeth, muscles, hearing, and nerves, from infancy through advanced age; and
WHEREAS, the serious and challenging symptoms of XLH greatly affect the quality of life of those living with the disorder and the families who support them; and
WHEREAS, patients living with XLH and their families often face challenges that extend beyond the disease itself, including delays in obtaining accurate diagnoses, limited access to effective treatment options, and financial barriers to receiving appropriate care; and
WHEREAS, although XLH currently has no cure, dedicated researchers continue to advance the understanding of genetic mutations in the hopes of discovering a cure; and
WHEREAS, the XLH Network Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting caregivers and individuals affected by XLH, promoting awareness and education for affected families, medical professionals, and the broader community, and assisting physicians and healthcare providers in improving the diagnosis and treatment of XLH;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize June 23, 2026, as X-LINKED HYPOPHOSPHATEMIA AWARENESS DAY and June 2026 as X-LINKED HYPOPHOSPHATEMIA AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA and I call these observances to the attention of all our citizens.
